May is the last month in Spring.

It can symbolize beauty and magnificence.

But growth and change can also be ugly and clumsy.

As you journal, look for the deeper meaning, the bigger lesson.  Experiment with capturing and expressing your inner growth.

Reflect on situations that were both positive and negative regardless of the weeky focus.

At the end of the month, what will help you more: keep it to review in a year or burn it and release it?

Focus on the process not the results.

Use this month’s prompts to practice any or all of the ways we communicate: visual, verbal or written.

·Doodle. Draw. Paint. Make a collage. Take pictures.

·Make a digital presentation with one slide per day.

·Make a video. Record a voice memo.

·Stand in front of the mirror and talk to yourself.

·Write in your journal. Write a blog post.

·Write a letter. Use new words.

·Type it. Voice dictate it.

Navigating change is tough, even when we make the decision for ourselves. I believe that this month’s journal prompts will help you see your own patterns, reveal your values and non-negotiables, and help you decide where to focus any personal or professional development activity.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss ways to explore this that suits your learning style, information processing preferences, and desired outcomes. I’d be happy to explore this with you!

BEAUTIFUL

Blooming Tulips

Blooming crocus, daffodils, tulips, lillies of the valley, iris

Cookouts and festivals

Cookouts, Parties, Festivals, Sporting Events

Graduations

Graduations are big accomplishments.

Mothers Day

We celebrate our mothers or being a mother.

Planting a garden

Physical toil, cleaning up, deliberate planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, nurturing. Always knowing that there will be scrumptious bounty!

Spring cleaning

The first time windows are really opened. And even cleaned. Carpets are cleaned. Closets emptied. Oh, it feels so good!

An outdoor sitting area

New patio furniture or cushions, or even a newly installed patio or deck! Glorious. String lights to make it cozy at night.

UGLY
Blooming dandelions

Not all flowers are desirable. Dandelions speckle our lawns. Garlic mustard invades the forest.  But what if they were edible…

Eating leftovers alone

Scraping together food to fill your belly but not satisfy your palate after a long day at work eating alone.

Quitting or ending

Quitting school, ending a relationship, dropping out of a degree program.

Mothers Day

Not everyone has a mom that inspires them or was able to love them unconditionally. Not everyone who wants to be a mom becomes a mom.

Dead house plants

No matter what you try, the plants always die. Or you forget about them. Or the fresh flowers are now slimey and stinky in the vase.

Cleaning another’s home

When someone is no longer able to care for themselves, family and friends step in. It can be awkward to clean up after someone, especially right in front of them.

Broken lawn chairs

Broken chairs and rusted grills are not inviting and can be expensive to replace.

MAGNIFICENT

Water sports

Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, pontooning

Sunshine

Letting the glorious sun kiss your face, warm your skin, store up vitamin d.

Farmers Markets

So much fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items

Walking outside in warmth

No more coat, hat, mittens, or boots. Short sleeves, warm breeze.

Open windows

A warm, fresh breeze tickles your ears… but you’re INSIDE!

Meditating in open space

Sitting at the lake or river, or top of the hill. Just looking, watching, listening.

A new sport

Warmer weather invites outdoor activity: golf, disc golf, horseback riding, kayaking.

CLUMSY

Downpours and flooding

Oh please don’t flood my house or destroy my garden. Please tell my my car and house windows are closed!

Sunburns

Ouchie. The sun is closest in spring. It doesn’t feel like it though!

Gas station food

No time. Gotta eat. In a hurry. Tired. Need to keep driving.

Waking up cold

I went to bed in a warm house, so I left the window open. Now it’s cold and windy! Waaaah!!!

Diesel fumes

A big truck went by and all the fumes filled my house. Ugh….

Worrying in your bedroom

Stress is so heavy and toxic to our health. Sometimes, there is no one to talk to.

Resting an injury

OUCHIE!!! Not only does it hurt, it’s going to take time to heal. And summer is right around the corner! This is terrible timing!

BONUS ROUND

Road trips

Hours in the car. The destination is the goal or is the journey?

Flying a kite

The wind is perfect! Or is someone brushing you off?

Foraging

Foraging asparagus, mushrooms/morels, ramps, dandelions is so exciting and fun. And cleaning everything is tedious. And there might be ticks.
